Study Team: Puget Sound Area Study Team

Puget Sound Area Study Team Overview

The 2008 System Assessment found deficiencies in the North Downtown Seattle area transmission system. Winter load growth is causing Seattle City Light’s Broad Street-Union, Massachusetts-Union, and Bothell-University 115-kilovolt lines to exceed ratings for several contingencies. There is also a concern about the impact any reinforcements in this area could have on the transfer capability between the Northwest and Canada on the Northern Intertie. ColumbiaGrid has assigned the resolution of this issue to the existing Puget Sound Area Study Team.

The Puget Sound Area Study Team is also looking into the operational impact between several other reliability projects planned in the Puget Sound Area and the capacity of the Northern Intertie.
The PSAST will also be used as the forum to provide the WECC review group for the Northern Intertie Path Rating Increase.
