ColumbiaGrid Economic Planning Study is a study program that was created in 2013 as a coordinated effort among ColumbiaGrid, it’s members, and interested parties. This study focuses on evaluating the performance of electricity market that could be influenced by various factors such as future supply conditions, changes in electricity demand, implementation of transmission upgrades or impacts from certain state, federal, or other related policies. Utilizing the capabilities of Production Cost Simulation software, this study has the ability to simulate hourly or sub-hourly behaviors of power grid throughout the year which can provide more complete picture of potential system performance. Furthermore, these results can be used in conjunction with other technical studies being conducted at ColumbiaGrid to ensure reliability and efficiency of the power grid as well.
