About the Power Grid

The high-voltage transmission systems owned by ColumbiaGrid’s members and participants make up a substantial network.  This network provides bulk transmission service to meet the demands of electricity customers within a quarter-million square mile footprint in the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, California, Wyoming, Nevada, and Utah.

The ColumbiaGrid participants own nearly 22,000 miles of transmission at voltages greater than 100 kV.  Our members and participants interconnect with other major transmission networks in Canada and the Western states and are well positioned for wholesale transactions.

The ColumbiaGrid facilities are likely to change over time as new members and participants come on board.  Our vision for the future includes attracting additional entities that generate, transmit, or deliver power in the states listed above, as well as in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and  Alberta.

"In ColumbiaGrid, we now have the ability to resolve the three fundamental transmission questions: What transmission facilities should be built? Who should build them? Who should pay for them? With ColumbiaGrid's independent staff and process to resolve disputes, we can answer these questions effectively and in a timely fashion to facilitate our region's new resource development needs."
