ColumbiaGrid's 2015 System Assessment Published

The final ColumbiaGrid 2015 System Assessment report has been posted. The report analyzes the reliability of the transmission system over the next ten years and identifies areas where there may be reliability issues. In addition, contents of this report also include information regarding the statuses of ongoing studies such as Economic Planning Study and other key activities that were conducted part of ColumbiaGrid planning process. Study Teams are formed to address reliability issues when they affect more than one ColumbiaGrid planning participant. As a result of this year’s assessment, currently no new study teams are proposed. All issues identified in this year’s assessment fit under existing study efforts. Four sensitivity studies have been identified and will be reported in the future planning meetings and the next Biennial Transmission Expansion Plan.

"Chelan PUD is a strong supporter of ColumbiaGrid and the work that’s accomplished through the transmission Planning and Expansion Functional Agreement (PEFA). As a result of that process, the mid-C utilities (Chelan, Grant and Douglas PUDs) and Bonneville Power Administration were able to reach an agreement that defined the need for a new transmission line, as well as determine who will construct, own and pay for the facility. Those difficult decisions were made successful through the expert and independent expertise of the ColumbiaGrid staff."
