ColumbiaGrid initiated a WECC Regional Planning Project Review Process for the BPA sponsored West of McNary project in June 2007. This project includes a McNary-John Day and a Big Eddy Station Z 500kV lines. This project is proposed to expand the capacity of the West of McNary, West of Slatt and West of John Day cutplanes to provide transmission capability to accommodate additional generation in eastern Oregon. A Regional Planning Project Review Group was formed to study this project. This study effort resulted in the Regional Planning Project Report that was sent to WECC on January 1 for a 30-day comment period. No comments were received on this report. On February 8 WECC notified its members that it had accepted the Regional Planning Project Review for the West of McNary project. This study team has concluded its work.
The West of McNary project is currently going through the Phase 1 Rating process via the WECC Technical Study Coordination Group.
