Study Team: 2017 Heavy Winter - 17HW2

2017 Heavy Winter - 17HW2 Overview

All changes submitted to the northwest area coordinator have been applied to the reference case.  Additional changes and corrections will be accepted until November 4. The draft prerun case is posted in both PSLF epc text format and PowerWorld Simulator version 15 pwb binary format.

The 17HW2 Northwest topology, load objects and levels, and generator objects come from the state of the BPA master database as of Sept 9, 2011.  The generation and area interchange schedules are identical to the WECC approved 16HW2, except another unit is on at Coulee to make up for the load level that is higher than the 16HW2 level.

This reference case provides an optional opportunity to practice submitting some of the additional data that is specified in the proposed revision to the WECC Data Preparation Manual  (http://www.wecc.biz/committees/StandingCommittees/PCC/TSS/SRWG/Lists/Team%20Discussion/DispForm.aspx?ID=1&RootFolder=%2fcommittees%2fStandingCommittees%2fPCC%2fTSS%2fSRWG%2fLists%2fTeam%20Discussion%2fData%20Preperation%20Manual%20Review ).

The additional data includes:

(a)    Generator Turbine type

(b)   Bus latitude and longitude

(c)    Nonconforming load flag (PSLF version 18 only, send in a list of those buses if version 18 hasn’t been approved by the time you submit data)

(d)   Generator reactive capability curves (if used for internal studies)

Changes to existing data includes:

(e)   Alpha characters for Line, Transformer, Generator, Load, SVD, and Bus Shunt ID’s are to be upper case

(f)     R and B values for lines less than X=0.00029 are to be zero (existing requirement, but the DPM revision emphasizes it more than the existing DPM)

Data submitted in epc or aux file format will be documented in a master aux file to show all of the changes and the order of changes made to the reference case.  Data submitters who have pre-arranged with the Area Coordinator to provide data in the form of spreadsheets will find their data converted to epc or aux files for inclusion in the master aux file.  The supporting data will be periodically posted as the case is developed.
